The newest addition to the Napoleon city park system could be a play area for dogs. The Girl Scouts of Western Ohio made a presentation to the Napoleon Parks and Recreation board, reporting they had received a grant for construction, and were interested in bringing the dog park to East Riverdowns Park, located off East Front Street in Napoleon.
The proposal is to have a fenced-in area that is 100 feet by 280 feet, surrounded by a 5 foot fence. This area would be divided into sections for large and small dogs. Proposed requirements for the dog park include registering the animal with the city, so there is background on vaccinations and licensing. A key system would be implemented for entry by the dog owners; and all financial responsibility would be in the hands of the Girl Scouts. The Napoleon parks and recreation department would tackle mowing and maintenance. The board passed a resolution of support for the dog park; which now sends the issue to the Napoleon city planning commission for a hearing on April 8th.
