Defiance Local News

Is the swimming pool in Holgate becoming too expensive to operate?   That’s a question Holgate village council is dealing with, after reviewing revenue and expense numbers from the past year.   Even with a property tax levy supplying over $13,000 a year from village residents; the Holgate pool lost over $13,000 in 2012, and another $9,000 plus was lost this past year.   Expenses that led to the negative numbers at the swimming pool included wages, chemicals, and repairs.    Holgate Council reports the swimming pool levy will be up for renewal in 2014.

Fire hydrant flushing is going-on the rest of this week, and first of next week in the village of Holgate; which may cause rust-colored water in some locations.

And the next meeting of the water and sewer committee of Holgate Council is set for October 8th at 6:30pm.

Holgate Village offices will be closed Friday; but will re-open on Monday, September 30th.
