Biden: Fight Over New Gun Regs Is Not Over

(Washington, DC)  --  Vice President Joe Biden claims the fight for new gun regulations is not over.  In a White House speech, Biden repeated a call to lawmakers to approve "common sense" gun safety regulations.  He said the first step should be toward universal background checks on gun purchases, something that fell short in the Democratic-led Senate.  There has been no movement toward new gun controls in the Republican-run House.  Biden warned that there will be a "political price" for inaction on gun violence.

Biden also urged lawmakers to boost mental health funding.  Biden and President Obama challenged Congress to approve new gun regulations after last year's school shooting massacre in Newtown, Connecticut.  In the White House event, Biden was introduced by shooting victim Steven Barton.  Barton survived serious gunshot wounds in last year's deadly shooting spree in Aurora, Colorado.
